Luz Manriquez is a Professor of Collaborative Piano and Director of the Piano Division at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Music. She holds a master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon and has been on its faculty since 1992, progressing from Artist Lecturer to her current rank. Her roles include directing the Instrumental Collaborative Piano department and founding the Carnegie Mellon Instrumental Collaborative Piano Festival (debut in 2019).
Her education includes studies in Chile, Switzerland, and the U.S., with mentors such as Elena Weiss, Edith Fisher, and María Iris Radrigán. She specializes in collaborative piano, chamber music, and contemporary works, having performed with ensembles like the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and recorded with artists like Andrés Cárdenes and Aaron Zelkowicz.
Manriquez’s awards include the Diapason d'Or Prize for her 2002 recording of George Crumb’s Music for a Summer Evening. She is a sought-after pedagogue, teaching at CMU’s Preparatory School and leading masterclasses globally. Her students excel in international competitions, performing at venues like Carnegie Hall and the United Nations.
Her artistic leadership extends to collaborations with the Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival, the Shadyside Concert Series, and the Frick Art Museum. She champions contemporary composers like Reza Vali and Nancy Galbraith, blending classical tradition with innovative musical exploration.
