معرفی
Prof. Georg Ramm is a Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Imaging Scientist and Research Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Monash University. He leads the Monash Ramaciotti Centre for Cryo-EM, a major facility supporting cell and structural biology research. His expertise includes cryo-electron tomography, correlative light-electron microscopy, and mitochondrial dynamics. Ramm holds a PhD from Utrecht University (Netherlands) and degrees from Germany.
Research focuses on high-resolution imaging of cellular architecture, autophagy/mitophagy, mitochondrial ultrastructure, and cell death mechanisms. His lab uses advanced techniques like cryo-FIB milling and Titan Krios G4 cryo-EM. Key projects include understanding mitochondrial DNA escape during apoptosis and dengue virus restriction by Wolbachia. Ramm has over 80 publications in journals like Science, Nature Communications, and Cell Metabolism.
He manages the Ramaciotti Centre, serving over 300 users globally. Current active grants include studies on kidney metabolism in diabetes (2024–2028) and novel cryo-EM detector technology (2024–2026). His work aligns with UN SDGs addressing health and sustainable innovation.
