Suwimon Boonrungsiman is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Electron Bio-Imaging Centre (eBIC) within Diamond Light Source, UK, working in Professor Peijun Zhang’s group since October 2024. Her research focuses on optimizing cryo-FIB-SEM workflows to study biofilm structure and advance cryo-electron microscopy methodologies for biological imaging.
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Materials Science/Biomedical Engineering from Imperial College London under Prof. Alexandra Porter, Prof. David McComb, and Prof. Molly Stevens
Her research expertise spans electron microscopy applications in biological systems, with dual focus on biofilm architecture and bone tissue regeneration. She employs TEM, STEM-EELS, and EDS to investigate calcification mechanisms in murine models, aiming to identify therapeutic targets for pathological bone conditions. Her work bridges advanced material characterization with biomedical discovery, particularly in stem cell-derived tissue models.
Dr. Boonrungsiman previously held research positions at the Centre for Ultrastructural Imaging (King’s College London) and Thailand’s National Nanotechnology Centre, where she led projects on bio-inspired bone regeneration materials. At eBIC, she contributes to the facility’s mission of providing cutting-edge imaging capabilities for international researchers. No scientific awards or student advising activities are publicly documented. She remains actively engaged in advancing cryo-EM techniques through the eBIC facility.
