Vinod Vogirala is an Electron Microscope Scientist at the electron Bio-Imaging Centre (eBIC) within Diamond Light Source, the UK's national synchrotron science facility. He joined eBIC in November 2019 as a Senior EM Support Scientist and was promoted to his current role in November 2021.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biophysics from ETH Zurich, Switzerland
- Research fellowship at the School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore
Vogirala's research focuses on structural biology, with a specialization in single particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). His work involves applying advanced cryo-EM techniques to study complex biological structures including viral proteins, RNA polymerases, and DNA-protein interactions, contributing to fundamental biological understanding and therapeutic development.
Analysis of his recent publications (2020-2024) reveals strong emphasis on structural virology (particularly SARS-CoV-2), plant molecular machinery, and DNA mechanics. His methodology integrates cryo-EM with biophysical and biochemical approaches, demonstrating expertise in cutting-edge structural analysis techniques.
As a core member of the eBIC team at Diamond Light Source, Vogirala supports the facility's mission through user training, instrument development, and collaborative research that advances biological imaging capabilities for the international scientific community.
