معرفی
Dora Yu is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) at the electron Bio-Imaging Centre (eBIC) at Diamond Light Source, having joined in October 2024. She works on the androgen receptor antagonist project under the supervision of Dr. Peijun Zhang within the eBIC research facility.
Education
- PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology, Chinese University of Hong Kong: Her doctoral research focused on reconstituting and solving the protein structure of small heat shock proteins with substrates using cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM), revealing novel anti-aggregation mechanisms. She additionally gained expertise in structural studies of membrane proteins during this period.
Research Interests
Dora specializes in high-resolution structural biology using cryo-EM to investigate protein conformational dynamics and molecular interactions. Her work bridges biophysics and biochemistry, with primary focus on heat shock protein mechanisms, membrane protein architecture, and nuclear receptor antagonism. She integrates biochemical reconstitution with advanced imaging to elucidate structure-function relationships in protein aggregation pathways and receptor-ligand interactions, contributing to therapeutic development for protein-misfolding disorders and hormone-related pathologies.
Laboratory and Team
As part of Dr. Peijun Zhang's research group at eBIC, Dora contributes to Diamond Light Source's world-leading cryo-EM facility which provides cutting-edge instrumentation for biological macromolecular imaging. The eBIC team operates multiple high-end electron microscopes and supports international researchers in structural biology projects.
