Dr. Kate McArthur is a Research Fellow in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Monash University, Australia. She leads the Mitochondria, Cell Death & Immunity Group within the university’s Biomedical Discovery Institute and holds a position as NHMRC Early Career Fellow. Previously, she served as a Visiting Scientist at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (2018). Her research focuses on mitochondrial biology, apoptosis, and immune signaling, employing advanced imaging techniques like lattice light-sheet microscopy and electron cryo-tomography to study mtDNA release during cell death.
Educational Background: She earned her PhD in 2017 from the University of Melbourne, Australia, where her thesis explored interactions between mitochondrial biology, cell death, and immune signaling. Her work on mtDNA release during apoptosis earned her first prizes in the 2018 Centenary Institute Medical Innovation Awards and 2019 Victorian Premier’s Excellence Awards.
