Professor Gauthier De Beco is a Professor of Law at Leeds Law School (University of Leeds), appointed in January 2024. Previously, he held academic roles at KU Leuven, University College London, and the University of Huddersfield, where he served as SGL - Research and Enterprise. His expertise centers on disability rights, human rights law, and inclusive education. He has collaborated with international organizations like the UN OHCHR, WHO, and ICC, and contributed to policy development through roles in the Human Rights Council (HRC).
Research Interests: Gauthier focuses on the right to inclusive education, critically analyzing its implementation through CRPD frameworks and exploring intersectionality with other identity characteristics. Current projects include improving legal education accessibility and developing strategies to uphold economic and social rights for disabled people during armed conflict. He has published widely, including monographs such as Disability in International Human Rights Law (Oxford UP) and peer-reviewed articles in journals like Human Rights Quarterly and Modern Law Review.
Professional Engagement: He serves on editorial boards of legal journals, advises NGOs, and participates in academic networks such as ESRAN-UKI and ANED. He has secured research funding from the Nuffield Foundation and European Commission.
Teaching and Supervision: Gauthier teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervises PhD students in international human rights legal theory, discrimination law, and law and disability. Seven of his supervisees are nearing completion.
