Lisa Waddington is Professor of European Disability Law at Maastricht University, holding the European Disability Forum Professorship in the Department of International and European Law, Faculty of Law. She is a leading scholar in disability and equality law, with significant contributions to European and international legal frameworks.
Her research focuses on European and comparative disability law, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), and non-discrimination law. She explores how legal systems can promote inclusion in education, employment, consumer rights, and criminal justice. Her work bridges theory and policy, influencing EU institutions and national practices.
Recent publications highlight trends in work-life balance under EU law, accessible consumer information, disability in emergencies, and inclusive jury participation. Her scholarship consistently emphasizes the role of reasonable accommodation and the transformative potential of the CRPD across legal domains.

She has led major research projects such as the Marie Curie networks DREAM and DARE, and is a Principal Investigator in the LaW-BALANCE project.
