Marjan Peeters is a Professor of Environmental Policy and Law at Maastricht University, holding this position since 2008. She leads courses in European and Global Environmental Law and co-supervises PhD projects in environmental law. Her research focuses on legal aspects of climate change, regulatory instruments for emission reduction, and environmental procedural rights. She is affiliated with the Maastricht Centre for European Law and the Ius Commune Research School.
Peeters has co-edited significant works such as the Research Handbook on EU Environmental Law (2020) and Climate Change Law (2016). She actively contributes to projects like Greendeal-NET and organizes lecture series on EU environmental law. Her career includes roles at the Dutch Ministry of Water Management and academic positions at Universities of Liège and Leuphana.
Key research interests include the intersection of law and sustainable development, with a focus on EU climate governance and legal frameworks for environmental protection. She frequently publishes on judicial enforcement of environmental rights, regulatory compliance, and climate neutrality strategies.
