Anne Pieter van der Mei is a Full Professor of European Social Law and Chair of the Department of Public Law at Maastricht University’s Faculty of Law. He holds a key domain chair in European Law and is actively engaged in teaching, research, and public service.
Research Interests: His research centers on the interaction between EU law and national social law, particularly focusing on the free movement of persons and access to social benefits. He explores how EU law influences national social security systems and the evolving role of social policy within European integration. Key themes include migrant workers' rights, coordination of minimum existence benefits, cross-border healthcare, and the role of European social partners in shaping labour and social policy.
Recent Publications: His recent scholarly output (2022–2024) shows a consistent focus on EU jurisprudence in social and labour law, with frequent contributions to journals such as Tijdschrift Recht en Arbeid, Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Europees Recht, and edited volumes. His work combines doctrinal analysis with policy relevance, often addressing current legal debates in the Netherlands and the broader EU context.
