Professor Gary Husband is a Professor of Professional Education at the University of Sunderland, leading educational research initiatives. Previously, he served as Senior Lecturer and Head of Department for Education Studies at the University of Stirling. His research focuses on further, adult, and vocational education sectors, with notable contributions to governance frameworks in colleges and the implementation of T-levels. He currently oversees ten doctoral students exploring diverse educational topics. Professor Husband holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).
Research interests include educational governance, vocational education policy, and professional learning in post-compulsory education. He led a £1 million ESRC-funded project on UK college governance and co-investigated ETF-funded studies on practitioner research and T-level pedagogy. Additional roles include Chair of the Association of Research in Post-Compulsory Education and Trustee of Archaeology Scotland.
His publications span educational governance, teacher training, and leadership, with recent works addressing FE sector challenges and international comparative analyses. He actively contributes to academic conferences and serves on boards of educational and cultural institutions.
