Maggie Gregson is a Professor of Vocational Education and Director of the Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training (SUNCETT) at the University of Sunderland. Her research focuses on practice-focused methodologies, vocational education systems, and the interplay between educational policy and practitioner experience. She leads the National Practitioner-Research Programme funded by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), supporting over 20 sector practitioners in advanced research pathways.
As an academic, she has supervised 14 completed PhD students and currently guides over 10 ongoing research projects. Her work bridges theory and practice, emphasizing reflective pedagogy and equitable evaluation frameworks. She chairs the T-Level Professional Development Construction Expert Panel and sits on multiple ETF advisory groups, influencing national educational policies.
Her research publications span reflective teaching strategies, vocational curriculum design, and the role of arts-based methods in fostering inclusive education. She has authored/co-authored influential books like Reflective Teaching in Further Adult and Vocational Education (2020) and edited special journal issues on post-compulsory education (2020, 2025).
