Martin Scott is a Senior Lecturer and full-time Programme Leader in the Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) team within the School of Education at the University of Sunderland. He joined the University in 2019 after 18 years of experience working in local Further Education (FE) colleges across teaching, support, and management roles focused on 14-16 education, mathematics, and engineering-related subjects.
His research interests center on the experiences of maths teachers, digital teaching methodologies, and vocational and experiential learning approaches. He created 'The Real Project' to engage reluctant learners in vocationally relevant subjects. His current MPhil research focuses on 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of teaching Maths in Further Education' with plans to progress to PhD. In 2015, he retrained as an FE maths teacher through a Level 7 in Maths Pedagogy.

As Programme Leader for the full-time PCET option, he teaches on the Post Compulsory Education and Training PGCE program and leads the Maths Pathway, Computing Pathway, and Enhanced Mentoring programs at Durham Sixth Form Centre and Hartlepool Sixth Form.
