Gail Thomas is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Penn State College of Medicine, affiliated with the Division of Cardiology, Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), and Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute. Her research focuses on cardiovascular physiology, with emphasis on skeletal muscle pathophysiology, hypertension, and mechanisms of vasoconstriction.
Her work explores topics such as exercise pressor reflex modulation, nitric oxide signaling defects in muscular dystrophy, and translational research on cardiovascular treatments. Notable projects include studies on acid-sensing ion channels in exercise physiology and the role of oxidative stress in peripheral artery disease.
Dr. Thomas has secured multiple grants from institutions like the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including projects investigating ischemia in muscular dystrophy and estrogen's role in vascular regulation. Her research has led to peer-reviewed publications in journals like Autonomic Neuroscience, American Journal of Physiology, and Hypertension.
