Güliz Ger is a Professor of Marketing at Bilkent University's Faculty of Business Administration, affiliated with the Center for Research in Transitional Societies. She holds a PhD (1985) in Marketing from Northwestern University, an MBA (1977) from Middle East Technical University, and a BS (1974) in Psychology from the University of Illinois. Her career includes roles as Associate Provost at Bilkent (1998-2011) and Director of the Center for Research in Transitional Societies (since 2000). She has served as visiting professor at global institutions including University College London, INSEAD, and Columbia University.
Her research focuses on sociocultural dimensions of consumption and markets in transitional societies, addressing globalization, modernity, and social change. She co-edits the Journal of Consumer Research and Journal of International Business Studies, and has led international doctoral programs like the 'International Seminar on Theorizing' (2005-2015). Her work bridges cultural anthropology, sociology, and marketing, emphasizing context-driven analyses of consumer behavior.
Ger’s publications span journals like Journal of Consumer Research and Marketing Theory, with a focus on global-local market dynamics, material culture, and ethical consumption.
