Fubing Su is a Professor of Political Science and Director of Asian Studies at Vassar College since 2004. He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago and previously taught at Brown University. His research focuses on contemporary Chinese political and economic developments, including electoral politics, local governance, urbanization, and environmental policy. Su’s teaching areas encompass comparative politics, political economy, and East Asian security. He has published widely on topics such as China’s growth model, meritocracy in official promotions, and regulatory policies. His work bridges political theory with empirical analysis of institutional dynamics in China.
Education: BA and MA from Nankai University (南开大学), MA and PhD from the University of Chicago. Professional affiliations include Asian Studies, International Studies, and Political Science programs at Vassar.
Research interests emphasize China’s political economy, with studies on rural land policies, environmental regulation, and decentralization effects on poverty alleviation. He has contributed to debates on the 'China model' and institutional foundations of economic transition.
