Xiaoyu Pu is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Nevada, Reno, and member of the Public Intellectuals Program of the National Committee on United States-China Relations (NCUSCR). He holds a PhD from Ohio State University, an MA from Kent State University, and MA/BA degrees from Nankai University (China). His research examines Chinese foreign policy, East Asian politics, emerging powers (BRICS), and international relations theory.
Publications analyze China's status signaling in global affairs, US-China strategic competition, and emerging power dynamics. His 2019 book Rebranding China: Contested Status Signaling in the Changing Global Order (Stanford University Press) examines China's international identity formation. Recent work explores Indo-Pacific geopolitics, Russia-Ukraine war responses, and China's Latin American engagement.
Pu serves on editorial boards of The Chinese Journal of International Politics (Oxford) and Foreign Affairs Review (China). His scholarship appears in journals including International Security, International Affairs, and The China Quarterly.
