Fredric T. Cohen

Fredric T. Cohen is a Professor of Oboe in the Department of Music and Dance at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He holds a BM/BME from the Philadelphia Musical Academy and has studied under notable instructors including Stevens Hewitt, Jerry Sirucek, John De Lancie, and Marcel Moyse. Active as both a performer and educator, he retired after 32 seasons as principal oboist with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and conducts orchestral activities at UMass and Greenwood Music Camp.

His performance career includes roles with the Harvard Chamber Orchestra, Boston Baroque, and Vienna Chamber Orchestra, with solo engagements featuring concertos by Macchia, Nieske, Shen, Morris, and Tcherepnin. He has taught at institutions including New England Conservatory and Boston University, and his recordings appear on labels like Telarc and Gasparo.

Cohen's international engagements include performances in England, the Netherlands, and Italy, with masterclasses at Dartington International Summer School. He maintains active chamber music roles with the Avanti Wind Quintet and regularly participates in festivals such as the Connecticut Early Music Festival.
