Dr. Franz Brulisauer serves as the Veterinary Centre Manager at the Food Security Challenge Centre within Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) in Inverness. Holding dual credentials as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (Dr med vet) and Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Public Health (Dipl ECVPH), he leads research initiatives at the intersection of animal health, agricultural systems, and food security.
His scholarly work spans over 19 years with 26 research outputs, demonstrating sustained contribution to veterinary science. Key research domains include:
- Livestock disease surveillance systems and network effectiveness
- Sheep farming challenges, particularly predation issues in Highland regions involving white-tailed eagles
- Digital epidemiology using social media analytics for disease monitoring
- Fasciolosis (liver fluke) modeling in changing climatic conditions
- Food security challenges in rural agricultural communities
Recent publications reveal an evolving research trajectory toward integrating traditional veterinary epidemiology with computational methods. His work on social media as a surveillance tool represents innovation in monitoring livestock diseases, while studies on predation impacts address pressing concerns for Scottish hill farmers. The research fingerprint analysis shows dominant activity in sheep veterinary science (100%), flock management (70%), seroprevalence studies (44%), and infectious agent monitoring (44%).
Dr. Brulisauer maintains active collaborations with researchers across veterinary science, agricultural economics, and computational fields. His position at SRUC's Inverness Campus places him at the forefront of addressing practical challenges facing Scotland's agricultural sector through evidence-based research and surveillance systems.
