Dr. Madeleine Henry is a Lecturer in Veterinary And Animal Science at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), affiliated with the Centre for Epidemiology and Planetary Health (CEPH) and the Food Security Challenge Centre. She holds a Master's in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, and a Bachelor's in Veterinary Medicine from University College Dublin.
Her research focuses on zoonotic pathogens (e.g., STEC, Lyme borreliosis, Fasciola hepatica) and antimicrobial resistance/usage (AMR/AMU) in livestock. She leads projects on the structure of Scotland's camelid and farmed deer sectors, biosecurity practices, and traceability of livestock. Notable projects include the Strategic Research Programme (2022–27) exploring AMR flow from livestock to humans, and studies on STEC in cattle and sheep.
Her work emphasizes ethical antimicrobial stewardship while maintaining animal welfare and contributes to EU Harmonised Monitoring Programs. She has published on farm vet mental health, livestock demographics, and frameworks for disease control confidence assessments.
