Frank A.E. Kruyt is a Professor at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), affiliated with the Molecular Oncology department within the Faculty of Medical Sciences. His research focuses on cancer biology, particularly glioblastoma and non-small cell lung cancer, with an emphasis on apoptosis mechanisms and therapeutic target development. He is a Principal Investigator in the Damage and Repair in Cancer Development and Treatment (DARE) program at the Cancer Research Centre Groningen (CRCG).
Education: PhD in Developmental Biology (Hubrecht Laboratory, Utrecht University), postdoctoral training at VU University Amsterdam and Baylor College of Medicine (USA). Key roles include editorial board memberships for journals like Apoptosis and Frontiers in Molecular and Cellular Oncology, and memberships in AACR and the International Society for Neuro-Oncology. He coordinates the Cancer and Immunology track in the Biomedical Sciences curriculum.
Research Interests: Cancer stem cell biology, tumor microenvironment interactions, Fanconi Anemia pathways, and apoptosis regulation. His lab develops models to study glioblastoma heterogeneity and therapeutic resistance.
Notable Grants/Awards: Dutch Cancer Society (KWF), NWO VIDI grants, and Israel Binational Science Foundation funding. Active in peer review for journals like Cancer Research and Clinical Cancer Research.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Molecular Oncology lab at UMCG and collaborates on projects involving proteomic/kinomic strategies for cancer therapy. Current activities include chairing weekly oncology research meetings and managing facilities like the Onco-proteomics laboratory and Flow Cytometry facility.
