Professor Fiona Lobban is a faculty member in the Health Research Department at Lancaster University's Faculty of Health and Medicine. Her research focuses on mental health and wellbeing, exploring support mechanisms in clinical, online, and peer-to-peer settings. She emphasizes understanding both positive and negative impacts of these support forms, using mixed methodologies with a growing emphasis on realist frameworks. Key areas of interest include digital mental health, social networks' role in mental health support, and peer support systems.
Her recent projects include the IMPACT Study (2025–2026), Mental Health Joint Response Car (2024–2027), and Library of Lived Experience for Mental Health (2023–2024). She is also involved in the Spectrum Centre for Mental Health Research and the FHM Mental Health Theme. Notably, she led the Spectrum Fellowship in Mobile Technology and Mental Health (2018–2020), advancing digital health solutions for mental illness.
Professor Lobban's work spans multiple collaborations, including with NHS and Health Education England. She actively supervises PhD students David Dinham, Catherine Liberty, and Hayley Lowther-Payne. Her research integrates lived experience insights, aiming to improve healthcare equity and intervention design through interdisciplinary approaches.
