Fernanda Prata is the Programme Lead for the MA Interdisciplinary Dance Performance and a Lecturer at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD), part of the University of Leeds. She holds an MA in Contemporary Dance and is completing a PhD in Performance at De Montfort University. Her roles include Module Leader for courses such as MA Creative Practices and MA Devising and Collaboration, alongside teaching Professional Practice and Research Project modules.
Her educational background includes certifications in Yoga Instruction, Yoga Therapy, and Theatre Arts. Prata has over 20 years of experience as an interdisciplinary artist, choreographer, and director, with notable collaborations with Punchdrunk (e.g., Sleep No More), Jasmin Vardimon, and Vincent Dance Theatre. Her research focuses on anthropophagic actions in dance training, blending autoethnography and interdisciplinary performance practices.
Prata’s creative work spans international performances, including Slot Project (NSCD) and Kroppen Min (Stavanger University). She emphasizes embodied movement practices, immersive theatre, and audience interaction. Beyond academia, she mentors postgraduate students and contributes to initiatives in decolonizing dance education and neurodiversity advocacy.
