Fernanda Negrete is an Associate Professor of French in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University at Buffalo, College of Arts and Sciences. She also serves as Director of the Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis & Culture. Her research bridges psychoanalysis, modern literature, and contemporary art, with a focus on feminine sublimation, intermediality, and environmental art. She holds a PhD in French Literature from Cornell University (2012), an MA from Cornell (2008), and a BA in Philosophy from Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico (2005).
Her scholarly interests include psychoanalysis and philosophy, women writers in French expression, avant-garde art, and critical theory. Current research projects explore environmental art, sound studies, and Clarice Lispector’s ethics of risk. She has published The Aesthetic Clinic (2020) and co-edited a special issue on Beckett’s intermedial works. Recent grants include the UB Honors College Faculty Fellowship (2018–2020) and Julian Park First Book University Fund (2019).
Her teaching spans French film, literary theory, and interdisciplinary seminars on art, psychoanalysis, and decolonial practices. She actively collaborates with international institutions like the Université de Lyon.
