Josh Alvizu is an Assistant Professor of German Studies and Environmental Humanities at the University of Maryland, serving as Director of Undergraduate Studies. He specializes in 20th-century German and Russian literature, art, and film, focusing on ecology and art-politics intersections. His research explores figures like Walter Benjamin, Bertolt Brecht, Vsevolod Meyerhold, and Alexander Kluge. His current book project examines intellectual exchanges between German and Soviet avant-garde movements, while a second project investigates the ecological thought of Paul Scheerbart.

Teaching focuses on modernism, avant-garde studies, and environmental humanities.
