Felix Wiedmann is an Associate Professor and Privatdozent (PD) at Heidelberg University's Department of Cardiology, Angiology, and Pulmonology. He leads the Group of Atrial Arrhythmias and Cellular Electrophysiology within the Heidelberg Center for Cardiac Arrhythmias. His clinical roles include Specialist in Cardiology at the University Hospital Heidelberg since 2015 and Laboratory Director of his research group.
He completed his medical degree and PhD at Heidelberg University (2007–2014), followed by postdoctoral research in molecular and translational electrophysiology. His research focuses on the functional roles of cardiac K2P potassium channels, atrial fibrillation mechanisms, and pharmacological modulation of ion channels in heart disease.
Key achievements include pioneering work on TASK-1 channel inhibition as a novel therapy for atrial fibrillation, and contributions to understanding SGLT2 inhibitors' antiarrhythmic effects. His work integrates clinical electrophysiology, molecular biology, and translational research, with collaborations at institutions like the Max Planck Institute and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
Awardees of notable grants include the DZHK Postdoc Start-Up Grant (2019) and Joachim Herz Foundation Fellowship (2020). He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and active in professional organizations like the German Cardiac Society (DGK).
