Federica Genovese is a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Oxford, affiliated with St Antony's College and the Department of Politics and International Relations. She joined Oxford in January 2024 after a tenure at the University of Essex (2014–2023). Her academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Konstanz, an MA from Johns Hopkins SAIS, and a Honors BA from the University of Toronto. She has held postdoctoral roles at Stanford University and fellowships at Nuffield College and Collegio Carlo Alberto.
Her research focuses on international and comparative political economy, emphasizing climate politics, globalization, and crisis management in Europe. Key themes include climate policy framing, cross-border climate finance, and the intersection of migration and media narratives. Her work has been published in top journals like the American Political Science Review, British Journal of Political Science, and International Organization.
Genovese’s awards include the Philip Leverhulme Prize (2024) and the Leverhulme Trust Research Leadership Award (2023). Her research is supported by grants from organizations like the British Academy and the Carnegie Trust. She advises students and collaborates on projects addressing climate vulnerability and policy implementation.
Her recent work explores the political economy of climate action, including expert perspectives on carbon pricing in developing nations and public attitudes toward sea migrant policies in Southern Europe. She also examines the normalization of authoritarian trends in global politics, drawing parallels between historical and contemporary political dynamics.
