Fay Anderson is an Associate Professor and Program Director of the Master of Journalism at Monash University's School of Media, Film and Journalism. She has held leadership roles including Deputy Head of School (2022–2023), Head of Journalism (2018–2021), and Deputy Head of Journalism (2016–2017). She previously worked at the University of Melbourne (2002–2011), serving as Director of the Australian Centre (2007–2009) and School of Historical and Philosophical Studies Research Chair (2010–2011).
Her research focuses on media history, including journalism history, war reporting, oral history, press photography, and the intersection of media with topics like genocide, trauma, migration, and memory. Key publications include *Witnesses to War: The History of Australian Conflict Reporting* (2011) and *The Holocaust and Australian Journalism: Reporting and Reckoning* (2024). She leads the ARC-funded project 'Australian Journalism, Trauma and Community' (2024–2027), examining journalists' exposure to trauma over the past century.
Anderson has supervised 13 PhD and 4 MA candidates. She serves on the editorial board of the *Australian Journal of Politics and History* and the Centre for Media History's Advisory Board at Macquarie University. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to peace, justice, and strong institutions through her exploration of media's role in societal challenges.
