Dr. Ester Driel MSc is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Utrecht University, specializing in Interdisciplinary Social Science. Her research focuses on refugee integration in Europe, ethnic diversity, sustainability, and sexuality through intersectional frameworks, while actively bridging academic research with field practice through NGO collaborations.
Her work examines:
- Local community revitalization via refugee settlement
- Social cohesion in multi-ethnic contexts
- Contact theory applications in migrant-host interactions
- Translocal migration support mechanisms
Key research outputs include a 2023 doctoral thesis on Riace's community model and co-authored studies in Ethnic and Racial Studies (2022), Journal of Community Psychology (2022), and Journal of Modern Italian Studies (2020).
