Jennifer Maturi is a PhD Candidate and Tutor at the School of Social Science, The University of Queensland. She holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Human Services and Social Policy) from Queensland University of Technology (QUT, 2007). Her research focuses on Social and Cultural Anthropology, with emphases on Violence Against Women, Refugee Studies, Governmentality, and Social Policy.
Her postdoctoral research under the 'Sexual Violence and the Limits of Consent' project (2022) examines affirmative consent frameworks through a cross-disciplinary lens. She contributed to a 2024 book on sexual consent and has published widely in journals like Violence Against Women and Australian Feminist Studies. Her work critiques how policies and services often marginalize refugee and migrant communities, advocating for intersectional and culturally responsive approaches.
Maturi has extensive experience in human services, including 15 years in domestic violence support, refugee settlement, and housing. She has conducted evaluations of programs like the Community Refugee Integration Settlement Pilot (CRISP) and co-designed health interventions with Arabic-speaking families. Her teaching includes tutoring courses on social research and criminal justice.
Her PhD thesis (2017–2021, under examination) explores intersectionality in domestic violence responses for refugee communities in Australia. She collaborates with organizations like the SocioHealthLab and UQ Bioarchaeology and Osteology Network (BONE) Research Group.
