Erinn Gilson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Merrimack College. Her work focuses on vulnerability’s role in ethics and politics, gender/racial/sexual justice, food ethics, and critical prison studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Memphis and a B.A. from Grinnell College. Her research integrates feminist theory, continental philosophy (especially Foucault and Deleuze), and social ethics to address systemic injustices.
Dr. Gilson’s scholarship critically examines vulnerability as a lens for understanding oppression, ethics, and social structures. Recent work explores vulnerability in psychiatric institutions, food justice intersections with climate change, and the implications of incarceration systems. Her writing appears in journals like Hypatia and Signs, and she co-edits volumes on food ethics and vulnerability.
Her publications consistently engage with intersectional frameworks, emphasizing how power dynamics shape ethical responsibilities. Notable contributions include critiques of sexual violence discourses, analyses of pandemic ethics, and pluralist approaches to vulnerability theory. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges philosophy with activism, policy, and social praxis.
