Erin Taylor, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Physiology & Biophysics & Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center's School of Medicine. Her research focuses on immune system dysfunction in hypertension and autoimmunity, particularly in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). She investigates mechanisms linking autoantibodies, regulatory T cells, and plasma cells to cardiovascular and renal injury. Her work employs rodent models to study immunosuppressive therapies, metabolic interventions, and sex-specific differences in disease progression.
Key research areas include hypertension pathogenesis in autoimmune diseases, the role of adipokines in inflammation, and neuroimmune interactions post-traumatic brain injury. Dr. Taylor's lab uses advanced techniques such as flow cytometry, proteomics, and in vivo imaging to study immune cell dynamics and metabolic pathways.
Her publications highlight contributions to understanding SLE-related hypertension, renal fibrosis, and the therapeutic potential of agents like curcumin and endothelin receptor antagonists. She has received the Melissa and Pete Shepherd, Jr., PhD. New Investigator Prize, recognizing early career achievements. Collaborative projects involve renal physiology, cardiovascular immunology, and translational research to improve outcomes in autoimmune and metabolic disorders.
