معرفی
Dr. Erika I. Boesen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). Recruited in 2012, her research focuses on renal pathophysiology, particularly kidney damage mechanisms in autoimmune diseases like lupus nephritis. She serves as Director of the Integrative Physiology and Molecular Medicine doctoral program and co-directs the Gastrointestinal Block for Phase 1 Medical education.
Education
- Bachelor's (Hons): Monash University, Australia (2001)
- PhD: Monash University (2005)
- Postdoctoral Training: Medical College of Georgia
Research Focus
Dr. Boesen investigates renal injury mechanisms in lupus, iron-mediated kidney damage, endothelin signaling in hypertension, and autocrine/paracrine regulators of renal function. Her lab employs murine models to explore therapeutic interventions like iron chelation and sodium 4-phenylbutyrate.
Publication Focus
Her recent work (2010-2022) emphasizes lupus nephritis pathophysiology, endothelin receptor mechanisms, renal iron accumulation, and novel therapeutic approaches. Research employs molecular, physiological, and translational methods across rodent models.
Awards
- NIH Study Section Member (2023-2027)
- UNMC Outstanding Teacher Award (2021)
- APS Young Investigator Award (2021)
- UNMC New Investigator Award (2014)
- American Heart Association Fellow (2012)
Academic Leadership
Dr. Boesen directs graduate education programs and mentors students through UNMC's Interdisciplinary Graduate Program. Her lab collaborates extensively on renal pathophysiology projects.
