معرفی
Erin Stephenson, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at Midwestern University, holding appointments in the College of Graduate Studies, College of Health Sciences, and College of Dental Medicine in Illinois. Her research focuses on the interplay between energy sensing pathways, macronutrient metabolism, and tissue repair processes, particularly in skeletal muscle, adipose tissue, and liver under bioenergetic stress conditions such as exercise, obesity, and genetic disorders.
Dr. Stephenson holds a Ph.D. from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (2013) and a B.Sc. (Honors) from Victoria University (2007). She completed postdoctoral training at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Pediatrics and Physiology. Her teaching spans diverse programs, including the Master of Medical Science, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Biomedical Sciences thesis advising roles.
Her lab investigates mechanisms linking metabolic adaptations to disease, with key themes: primary cilia in skeletal muscle progenitors, transcriptional regulation under bioenergetic stress, and sex-specific metabolic differences. Recent work highlights the role of inactivity-induced molecular changes and mitochondrial interventions in obesity.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on neural and musculoskeletal systems, with mentorship roles in research electives for dental, optometry, and biomedical sciences programs.
