Erin Percival Carter, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at the University of Maine’s Maine Business School. She co-founded and co-directs the Business, Agriculture, and Rural Development (BARD) Institute, an independent organization supporting sustainable agriculture through business analytics. Her education includes a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Colorado Boulder and a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Wyoming.
Research Interests: Dr. Carter focuses on authenticity judgments in markets, well-being through consumption, and morality in academic and business contexts. She examines how flaws in products reduce process uncertainty, gender equity in entrepreneurship, and the effects of hype on consumer satisfaction. Her work combines behavioral experiments with big data to inform brand strategy and academic policy.
Awards & Grants: Notable recognitions include the 2021 Beta Gamma Sigma induction, University of Maine Dean’s Research Award (2019), and multiple fellowships from the University of Colorado Boulder (2014–2017). She received the AMA Sheth Doctoral Consortium Fellowship in 2015 and the Gerald Hart Research Fellowship (2013–2014).
Consulting & Service: Dr. Carter provides behavioral consulting to both public and private sector clients, including Fortune 500 firms and local governments.
