Dr. Erin Millions is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at the University of Winnipeg. Her research focuses on colonialism, Indigenous histories, childhood, and commemoration in Canada. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Manitoba (2018), M.A. from the University of Saskatchewan (2004), and B.A. Honours from the University of Saskatchewan (2000). Dr. Millions is affiliated with the Canadian Historical Association and the Canadian Committee on Women's and Gender History.
Her current research examines British-Métis children's educational experiences in fur trade regions, colonial Canada, and Britain. She has contributed to public history initiatives such as the Manitoba Indigenous Tuberculosis History Project, Indigenous Afternoons in the Archives, and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Teaching areas include Indigenous histories, children's history, and public history. Recent courses taught include HIST-1006(3), HIST-1007(3), and HIST-4570(6)/HIST-7004.
Dr. Millions has received grants totaling over $545,000 and awards including the Best Dissertation in Canadian Studies (2018). She collaborates widely, co-authoring works on Indigenous tuberculosis history and residential schools. Her work emphasizes community-engaged methodologies and Indigenous perspectives in historical research.
Key projects include the Paths to Reconciliation Project with Canadian Geographic and podcast contributions like The Story of a National Crime. She lectures on Indigenous health care history and participates in initiatives like the Welcoming Winnipeg Committee. Her research bridges academic and public spheres, focusing on decolonizing historical narratives.
