Erin Dowler, D.M.A., serves as Lecturer in Applied Clarinet at Oakland University's School of Music, Theatre and Dance. She holds concurrent performance positions as Second Clarinet with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and active performer with Michigan ensembles including Marquette Symphony, Jackson Symphony, and Michigan Philharmonic.
Her educational background includes:
- Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Clarinet Performance from Ithaca College
- Master of Music in Clarinet Performance from The Ohio State University
- Doctor of Musical Arts in Clarinet Performance from Michigan State University
Dr. Dowler's artistic practice centers on clarinet performance and pedagogy, with specialized focus on expanding pre-college repertoire through commissioned works like Nadine B. Silverman's 'Sonatina for the Inner Child'. Her chamber music initiatives with Pure Winds (Michigan's premiere woodwind quintet) and Bella Clarinet Quartet emphasize educational outreach and recordings of works by women composers.
Her professional recognition includes:

With nearly a decade of teaching experience across New York and Michigan institutions, Dr. Dowler has developed clarinet studios at Ithaca College Summer Music Academy and served as clinician for L'Anse Creuse High School and North Farmington High School. Her administrative work at Michigan State University Community Music School – Detroit demonstrates commitment to community engagement through music education.
Dr. Dowler currently serves as Detroit Strategy Specialist for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, developing programs in early childhood education, school music initiatives, and workforce development while maintaining active performance and pedagogical roles.
