Erin Bailey serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of South Carolina. She holds positions at multiple institutions including Columbia College, Coker University, and the University of South Carolina. A South Carolina native, Bailey is a Certified Laban Movement Analyst and Somatic Movement Educator/Therapist with 12 years of experience as a Licensed Massage Therapist.
Education: BFA from Columbia College (SC), MFA from Texas Woman’s University (awarded 2012 Choreography Prize and 2014 Leman Award), and completion of Integrated Movement Studies (2016).
Research interests focus on interdisciplinary dance practices, somatic movement education, and the intersection of performance art with therapeutic modalities. Her choreographic work has been presented at national and international festivals including the Kennedy Center National College Dance Festival and Greensboro Fringe Festival. She founded Moving Body Dance Company (2018) and emphasizes community engagement through movement.
Awards include SC Arts Commission Fellowship (2021) and recognition for artistic excellence in choreography. Professional experience spans performances with The Power Company, Unbound Dance Company, and international collaborations in Guatemala, Australia, and Czech Republic.
Advising and grants: Mentors emerging artists through her dance company and academic roles. Active in grant-funded community arts initiatives. Laboratory/Team: Leads Moving Body Dance Company, a platform for innovative choreographic research and public performance.
