Erik Voeten is the Peter F. Krogh Professor of Geopolitics and Justice in World Affairs at Georgetown University, holding joint appointments in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and the Government Department. He directs the Mortara Center for International Studies, focusing on global governance, international law, and energy transition. His research bridges international institutions, geopolitical dynamics, and the political economy of energy.
Voeten earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from Princeton University. He has authored over 100 articles and edited journals like International Organization and Research and Politics. His 2021 book Ideology and International Institutions examines how ideological divides shape global governance structures.
He teaches courses on international relations theory, statistical methods, and international institutions. His work frequently engages with contemporary issues like climate policy, EU politics, and the geopolitical implications of energy dominance. He co-edits the Good Authority platform and has been a vocal commentator on U.S.-EU trade dynamics, Trump administration policies, and South Korean democracy under strain.
