Eric Hansen is an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. He has been a faculty member since 2006, teaching Applied Clarinet, Music Theory, Woodwind Techniques, and specialized courses like Video Game Music. His academic background includes a Master of Music in Clarinet Performance from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Music in both Music Education and Clarinet Performance from Arizona State University.
Hansen is an active performer in Classical, Jazz, Klezmer, and Contemporary genres, serving as Principal Clarinetist of the Weidner Philharmonic Orchestra. His interdisciplinary research focuses on the technology, history, psychology, and sociology of video game music, reflected in courses he designed. He co-authored the clarinet method book Extreme Clarinet (Potenza Music), emphasizing technical finesse and extended techniques.
Additional highlights include faculty solo and chamber recitals, live broadcasts on Wisconsin Public Radio, and performances with ensembles like the Yellowstone Jazz Festival Big Band and Trade Winds Ensemble. He mentors students in clarinet and conducts the Woodwind Ensemble, while his teaching extends to UWGB Summer Music Camps and other international programs.
