Eric Colgrove is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Music at Harding University, where he serves as Director of Instrumental Activities. He directs the Thundering Herd Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, and Symphonic Orchestra, and teaches courses in instrumental conducting and music education. His academic and professional work centers on music education, wind and orchestral conducting, and the integration of technology in music assessment.
Dr. Colgrove earned a Master of Music in Conducting from Colorado State University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Music Education with a Wind Conducting emphasis at the University of Oklahoma. His earlier education includes a degree from Harding University, where he began his academic journey.
His research and professional interests include instrumental music pedagogy, ensemble direction, and music technology. Though no formal publications are listed, his career demonstrates a strong commitment to advancing music education through performance, leadership, and curriculum development. He has conducted honor bands and orchestras across Colorado and Oklahoma and has contributed to state-level music education initiatives.
Eric Colgrove has held significant leadership roles, including Performing Arts Department Chair at Widefield High School for six years. He has guided ensembles to superior ratings and state-level recognition, including leading the Widefield Gladiator Marching Band into the state competition’s top 10. He has also been active on district and state committees focused on improving music education standards and technological integration in assessment.
He performs as a trumpeter with community and semi-professional jazz and concert ensembles and recorded with the country band The Salty Dogs on their 2007 album Autoharpoon. He is married to a fellow Harding alum and English instructor, and they have three sons.
