Emmanuelle Poulain-Gautret is a Professor of Medieval Language and Literature at the University of Lille, affiliated with the Department of Modern Literature and the Faculty of Humanities. She holds a HDR (2017) and a PhD in French Literature (1999) from Paris X-Nanterre, focusing on the evolution of the epic genre. Her research centers on chansons de geste, medieval epic traditions, and their adaptation into modern fantasy and popular literature. She has organized major international conferences, including the 2022 Rencesvals Congress, and co-edited volumes on epic poetry. Teaching responsibilities include medieval literature courses from L2 to aggregation preparation, alongside roles as Head of L1 Modern Literature and Parcoursup manager. She is a member of the Société Rencesvals and directs the ALITHILA laboratory. Her work bridges medieval and modern studies, emphasizing the epic’s enduring cultural impact.

Administrative roles include director of the MESHS research unit (since 2022), member of the University of Lille’s Board, and representative in educational councils. Her service contributions span academic governance, editorial work, and international conference organization.
