Dr. Emma Kenyon is a Lecturer in Neuroscience at Swansea University Medical School, part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. Her research focuses on sensory neuroscience, particularly hearing and balance, using zebrafish as a model system. With 20 years of experience in zebrafish research, she investigates intracellular trafficking mechanisms and their role in sensory hair cell function. In 2019, she received the RNID Pauline Ashley Fellowship to study RabGTPases in aminoglycoside antibiotic transport. She teaches on the MSc Medical Neuroscience program and supervises postgraduate research.
- Expertise: Sensory neuroscience, genetics, zebrafish models
- Awards: RNID Fellowship (2019), NERC Grant (2023), HERC Equipment Grant (2022)
Key research areas include ototoxicity prevention, hair cell protection, and seagrass population dynamics. She has authored/co-authored over 20 publications in journals like Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, Nature, and PLoS ONE.
Current grants include NERC funding for interdisciplinary research and HERC support for lab equipment. She collaborates with institutions like University of Sussex and University of Birmingham, and has held roles from postdoctoral researcher to senior fellow.
