Emma Banister is a Professor of Consumption and Society at Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, and currently serves as Director of Methods@Manchester. She joined the university in 2010, previously working at Lancaster University Management School and UMIST. Her research focuses on Transformative Consumer Research, Consumer Culture Theory, and issues of gender, work, and family dynamics, particularly fatherhood. She leads projects such as the ESRC Digital Futures at Work Research Centre and the Transition to Parenthood in UK SMEs. Emma holds external roles including External Examiner at the University of Edinburgh and Advisory Board member at Working Families. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing inequalities and gender equity. Key collaborations include the Fatherhood Institute and Working Families, emphasizing policy-relevant research on parental leave and workplace adaptation. She is also engaged in exploring non-drinking cultures and the therapeutic role of academic communities.
