Dr. Bianca Stumbitz serves as Senior Research Fellow at Middlesex University's Faculty of Business and Law within the Centre for Enterprise, Environment and Development Research. A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, her research examines maternity/paternity at work, equality issues in labor markets, and social entrepreneurship with geographic focus on low-middle income countries.
Her qualifications include a PhD from Middlesex University on social entrepreneurship across the life course. Current research includes an ESRC-funded project on Transition to Parenthood in UK SMEs in collaboration with Working Families and Fatherhood Institute, plus investigations into menopause awareness in higher education.
Research interests center on gender equity in employment contexts, particularly workplace policies supporting new parents across formal and informal economies. Fieldwork spans multiple countries including Ghana, South Africa and Malaysia, examining how institutional and cultural contexts shape work-family support systems.
Publications demonstrate consistent focus on gendered dimensions of work, with recent outputs examining breastfeeding support interventions, maternal body work in low-income settings, and SME accommodation of parental transitions. Research consistently informs policy actors including employers, governments, and international organizations.
Dr. Stumbitz teaches qualitative methods, equality/diversity, and HRM topics while supervising doctoral researchers. She co-leads Middlesex University's Gender & Diversity Research Cluster and contributes to international policy committees on maternity protection.
