Emily Pence Brown

Dr. Emily Pence Brown is an Associate Professor of Music Education at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), where she teaches undergraduate choral courses and directs the Volaré Ensemble. Her academic career spans teaching high school choir, piano, and musical theater in Florida before pursuing her PhD. She holds a B.M.E. from Rutgers University, M.M.E. from Florida State University, and Ph.D. from University of Southern Mississippi.

Her research focuses on teacher wellness, vocal health, and strategies to reduce music teacher attrition. She actively publishes in Journal of Music Teacher Education, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, and others. Dr. Brown also commissions new choral works through the BGSU Volaré Ensemble, with recordings featured in the Bowling Green State University Choral Series via Santa Barbara Music Publishing.

She has presented at conferences including the International Society for Music Education, National Association for Music Educators, and state-level music education meetings. Recent professional conducting engagements include the BGSU Falcon Choral Festival and Ball State University’s 'Women in Song' festival.

Dr. Brown maintains memberships in American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, and Ohio Music Educators Association.
