Professor Emad Khalil is a Global Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton from 2018 to 2021, hosted by Dr. Fraser Sturt, an Associate Professor in Archaeology. His fellowship aims to strengthen collaborative ties between Alexandria University and Southampton in maritime heritage research, education, and capacity-building initiatives.
The collaboration focuses on three key objectives: (1) developing a Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) bid targeting maritime cultural heritage in North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean; (2) producing a publication analyzing regional capacity gaps and needs; and (3) identifying partnerships with governmental/non-governmental organizations to advance research and educational activities.
Emad’s research interests center on maritime heritage preservation, cultural resource management, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in archaeology. He seeks to address challenges in safeguarding coastal and underwater cultural sites while promoting sustainable development strategies in the region.
While no formal academic awards or student advisees are listed, his involvement in GCRF initiatives highlights grant-related activities. Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams at both universities, Emad contributes to projects that bridge heritage studies and regional development.
His work is closely tied to teams at the University of Southampton’s Archaeology Department and Alexandria University, emphasizing cross-institutional and cross-regional partnerships.
