Professor Lucy Blue is a maritime archaeologist affiliated with the University of Southampton (part-time) and serves as Maritime Archaeological Director of the Honor Frost Foundation. She specializes in developing archaeological capacity in the Middle East and eastern Mediterranean, particularly focusing on endangered maritime heritage. She co-directs the Endangered Maritime Archaeology in the Middle East and North Africa (MarEA) project funded by Arcadia, emphasizing documentation and preservation strategies for threatened sites.
Her research spans projects such as the Dreamer’s Bay underwater survey in Cyprus and surveys of maritime cultural landscapes in Oman, Syria, and the Red Sea. She prioritizes community engagement, traditional boat studies, and interdisciplinary approaches to heritage management. Current projects include frameworks for integrating Marine Cultural Heritage with Marine Protected Areas in Africa and the Middle East.
Lucy has supervised multiple PhD students in archaeology, focusing on maritime topics. She has presented at key conferences and actively collaborates internationally on heritage policy, climate impact assessments, and big data applications. Her work bridges archaeological practice with modern challenges like urbanization and climate change, advocating for holistic heritage protection strategies.
