Ellen Wurtzel is an Associate Professor at Oberlin College's College of Arts and Sciences, affiliated with the Department of History and Jewish Studies. She specializes in medieval and early modern European history, focusing on urban and legal history, state development, and gender. Currently on leave, her research examines the transformation of urban jurisdiction and space in the southern Low Countries during early modern state formation.
