Emerson Morgan is the Librarian for Special Collections in the Conservatory Library at Oberlin College and Conservatory, where he connects scholars, performers, and students with music materials for research and creative work. Trained as both an archivist and historical musicologist, he specializes in music source studies and medieval music traditions. His collaborations span academic departments, cultural institutions, and professional associations.

Morgan’s research focuses on the intersection of archival practices and historical musicology, emphasizing medieval manuscripts, colonial-era music sources, and digital preservation. His recent exhibitions address diverse topics such as Jazz archives, Ashkenazi sound pathways, and Bach’s Orgelbüchlein. He contributes to interdisciplinary pedagogy and manuscript provenance analysis.
His publications highlight trends in musicological archiving, cross-cultural source representation, and digital humanities methodologies. At Oberlin, he co-leads the Cultural Property Steering Committee, advises the Riemenschneider Bach Institute, and serves as a liaison between the Music Library Association and the American Musicological Society.
Emerson Morgan actively engages Oberlin’s academic community through Winter Term projects, library exhibits, and digital policy initiatives. His work bridges historical scholarship with modern archival access, supporting both scholarly and creative endeavors through Oberlin’s Special Collections.
